2018 Clarke County: Paula Hein

Paula started with the 4-H program when she was nine years old as a member of the Washington Wonderettes 4-H Club.  Sheep was her favorite project area.  When Paula returned home from college, she volunteered to help with the sheep show, both in the ring and assisting the exhibitors.  In 2010, after eleven years of helping, she accepted the role as sheep project leader.

Paula shared many life skills with the youth through guidance, direction, dedication, and hard work.   She started her own sheep herd and has been able to offer lambs for show, not only to her nieces and nephews, but also to any exhibitor who expressed an interest in the sheep project.  She has witnessed many exhibitors improve and grow in the sheep area.  She is still giving of her time and knowledge to the 4-H program through sheep project meetings, answering questions, giving a lending hand for any project, and helping all exhibitors at any time throughout the Clarke County Fair.

In 2012, she was elected a member of the Clarke County Fair Board and is presently serving as the treasurer.  She is always willing to help with fair board events whenever she is available.  She has helped with fundraiser events, inviting the community to attend and show support, sponsoring plaques, banners, and ordering all the awards for the fair events.

In 2013, Paula was elected to be a member of the Clarke County Extension Council with her term expiring in 2020.  With her involvement on the extension council, she remains an active supporter for growth and improvement of the 4-H program in Clarke County for future exhibitors.
