John Ley was the ISUE County Extension Education Director for 27 years in Kossuth County and was in Extension work for over 30 years. During those years he was a wonderful provider of information, education, hope and encouragement to the patrons of Kossuth County. His great efforts earned him many Extension awards including the Distinguished Service Award, Meritorious Service Award, and Iowa Friends of Agriculture Award. He also had the 1995 fair dedicated to him and was the grand marshal of the 1998 - 50th annual Algona Band Day.
John, an ISU graduate, worked in feed sales and as an Ag teacher before joining Extension. He worked in Guthrie County for four years before moving to Kossuth County. He retired in 1996, but continued to support Extension and 4-H by serving on the referendum committee, taught at our farm safety camp and helped with youth agriculture programs.
People and what happens to them have always been an important part of John’s life and he was very involved in the whole community up until they moved from here last year to be closer to their children. Join us is welcoming John Ley to the 4-H Hall of Fame.
