2017 Wayne County: Jean Lain

Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame Inductees

2017 Wayne County: Jean Lain

Jean Lain joined the Corydon Clover Powerettes 4-H club in 1972. Over the years in 4-H she participated in countless projects that were exhibited at the Wayne County Fair as well as several making it to the Iowa State Fair and won numerous awards. She was very well known for her baking skills. She even did a 4-H demonstration at the state fair making funnel cakes. Jean held several offices during her years in 4-H and served on the 4-H Youth Council.

In 1993 Jean joined the County 4-H Committee to continue her work with the 4-H program here in Wayne County and served until 1996. She then became a leader for the Union Hotshots 4-H club where she served from 2001 to 2014.  Her 3 boys Justin, Tyler and Kenton were members in this club. All the members would meet at Jean’s home where they conducted their business in the basement while parents congregated in the kitchen upstairs to visit. Everyone always had a great time at these meetings. When she thought her time was done she agreed to once again take part on the County 4-H Committee in 2014 and continues to serve today.

Jean has always taken her role in 4-H seriously. As a leader and as a member of the County 4-H Committee she strives to keep the 4-H clubs active in the community and in on-going events. She encourages her family to take an active role in the 4-H program.  As adults the boys are serving as barn superintendents and all three of them can often be found in the barns helping youth with their livestock projects.

Wayne County is very fortunate to have a role model such as Jean Lain. Her mother Nancy Bellon was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009.  It will be an honor for her to be able to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
