2016 Wapello County Randy and Melanie Conrad

For all of their lives, agriculture and family have been a huge part of Randy and Melanie's lives. Growing up on farms in rural areas of Iowa fostered the value of hard work and community. Sharing these experiences and leadership opportunities with their children was an important part of their adult years. With their support, Randy and Melanie's three children were active in 4-H for many years.

Randy has been active on the Wapello County Expo board for many years. He served in various leadership roles including president, vice president, and beef superintendent. He volunteered countless hours during Expo week to set up, tear down, and to help the Expo run smoothly. He also enjoyed helping his children with their cattle and swine.

Melanie was the Polk XL Clover Kids leader for several years, and later served as the bucket bottle calf superintendent. During Expo week, she spent a lot of time helping make sure the home economics and science and engineering exhibit areas were set up and organized. Even though her children are no longer in 4-H, she continues to stay involved as a volunteer and home economics judge.

After their children outgrew the program, Randy and Melanie continued to support their community and stay involved in the 4-H program through leadership and volunteering. Together the duo have continued to spend countless hours volunteering at the woodworking workshops and have hosted cattle weigh-in at their farm for over 10 years. They still enjoy attending Expo functions.
