2016 Sioux County Cindy Cleveringa

Cindy Cleveringa served as a dedicated 4-H youth development professional through ISU Extension and Outreach and a tireless advocate for youth development in Sioux County.  Her passion for unearthing the potential in youth was apparent to those who worked with her.  She also had a skill for expanding the opportunities youth could participate in and grow.

Her abilities to start up new initiatives and advocate for new partnerships and empowering new volunteers helped create an innovative and relevant learning climate that sought to make a difference in the individual lives, families and communities of Sioux County.  Whether in the community or on the fairgrounds, Cindy Cleveringa leveraged teams of partners, volunteers, and other youth to expand learning minds, cultivate compassion, and inspire leaders of tomorrow by empowering them to make a difference today.

Throughout her career, Cindy grew and supported special interest clubs and initiatives in Sioux County in order to recruit new members, including the summer camp program that recruited  approximately 75% non-4-H youth in 2014 and 2015. She started and sustained the 4-H IMPACT program, an 8th grade leadership initiative. She co-created a number of important annual events in Region 1, including Precision Ag and Animal Science Days and STEM Festival, an event for middle school students to experience hands-on learning in different areas of science, engineering, technology, and math.

Cindy was integral in starting and sustaining the 4-H Endowment in Sioux County in order to offer scholarships to youth so they can participate in a multitude of county and out-of-county programming opportunities.
