2016 Jackson County Bill and Carol Ihrig

Bill and Carol Ihrig have both been involved in 4-H since their youth. Bill was a member of the Emeline Ridge Rollers 4-H club, of which both he and Carol are still leaders of today.  Carol was also a founding leader of the Maquoketa Clover Kids program, which introduces younger youth to the 4-H program and helps to inspire them to continue into their local 4-H club. The Ihrig’s live on a farm west of Maquoketa where they continue to farm, raising beef and row crops.

Bill and Carol have 3 children: Joan Watters of Dubuque, Joe Ihrig of Washington and Jennifer Ihrig of Johnston. Growing up, all three children were very involved in every aspect of farm life andv4-H.  Between the 3 of them the kids exhibited livestock, participated in clothing events at both the county and state levels, demonstrated educational working exhibits and presentations at their club meetings, county fairs and state fair. In addition to their projects, all of their children were also involved on the local County 4-H Council and various leadership events in the county.

The Ihrig’s remain busy as leaders of the Emeline Ridge Rollers and Maquoketa Clover Kids clubs. When they aren’t attending meetings, their 4 grandchildren are keeping them busy with their sporting events and helping Carol in the garden. Bill and Carol strive to keep agriculture close to the heart as they continue to teach their grandchildren about farming and gardening each and every time they spend time together.

Bill and Carol are actively involved in the community and members of the local Lion’s club, work for various events with the fair association and volunteer at the Maquoketa Caves.
