2015 Page County- Neil McCoy

Neil McCoy was an active member of the Valley Boosters 4-H Club for nine years and held many offices. He served as the Page County Boys 4-H President in 1967. Neil especially enjoyed showing Guernsey dairy cattle.

After graduating from high school, Neil attended Iowa State University. After graduation, he returned to Page County to farm with his father and began volunteering for the 4-H program and fair board. He led the Valley Boosters 4-H Club for 14 years. During that time, he also completed three years on the County Youth Committee. He is a Page County Honorary 4-H Member and supporter of the Iowa 4-H Foundation 400 Club. Neil served on the Page County Fair Board for 16 years and was the Secretary-Manager from 2001 through 2008.

Neil enjoyed the many pleasures of helping his children, Jeromy, Katina, and Dustin, participate in 4-H for 15 years. He encouraged them to try many project areas, like sheep, swine, food and nutrition, clothing, and creative arts. All three showed beef cattle, which had become a main interest for Neil.

4-H has been a long-time tradition in the McCoy family with a granddaughter starting as the fifth generation in the Valley Boosters 4-H Club. Summer is an exciting time at the McCoy Family Farm as everyone prepares for the Page County Fair by finishing exhibits and setting up the fairgrounds so everything runs smoothly.

Neil’s passion for 4-H is inherited from his grandfather, Ralph, and his father, Malcolm, as well as his father- and mother-in-law Frank and Mary Frances Powers. He appreciates everyone who has supported his activities with Page County 4-H and the Page County Fair Board. His special thanks goes to his wife Becky, who is also a long-time supporter of 4-H through her club work and as a volunteer. Without Becky, Neil could not have achieved all he accomplished.

The McCoy Family shared many special memories through their involvement in 4-H and look forward to future celebrations as the fifth generation begins.
