Caring for Others

Black Hawk County 4-H'ers tie fleece blankets for their Care Kit Project.

Members of the Lincoln Friendly Links 4-H Club in Hudson, Iowa, are helping kids in need. The club learned about children in the Waterloo area who were being removed from their homes by the Department of Human Services during drug busts or abuse situations. These children usually leave with nothing but the clothes on their back.

The club received a Pioneer Community Improvement Grant to purchase material for making fleece blankets for the children. With the help of local media and other community partners the Care Kits have expanded to include a stuffed animal, coloring book and crayons, and personal toiletries.

4-H teaches life skills, helping young people make a positive difference for Iowa communities.
